In the 1960?s, to meet the needs of our growing community it was converted to a hardware and lumberyard. The current owners took over in 1976. We sit directly beside the railroad tracks before coming into town. In the past, the lumber and material deliveries use to be unloaded directly from the rail cars. The original icehouse built to hold huge blocks of ice cut out of the North East river still stands. The floor of the icehouse was dug deep into the ground and straw was laid over the ice to keep cold. After many years the icehouse floor was covered and converted to store other materials.
