Where to Sit: When it’s warm, head to the enclosed patio, located at the back of the long, narrow storefront. Otherwise, steel stools overlooking North Avenue make for good people watching.

The Extras: Vegetarians and vegans can count on a few options, like a veggie sandwich with cashew butter.

"You can always depend on something delicious" at this counter-service Wicker Park BYO where "quality" offerings like "savory" brunch dishes, "terrific" burgers and "creative" sandwiches in "well-thought-out combinations" highlight "top-shelf" local ingredients; the "cozy" space comes with a "sunny patio" and "welcoming" staffers "remember your name", so it's a "regular stop" for many.

Grab a seat on the old church pew along the exposed-brick wall in the dining room and order up one of the best sandwiches you'll find west of the lake. Using seasonal, local and organic ingredients Birchwood keeps it simple, doing only a few things with their menu, but doing them well.
