When to Go: Unless you brave the crowds in South Boston, this is the epicenter of the city's annual celebration (come early or you won't get in).

Very much like a Dublin pub, the Black Rose is decorated with family crests, pictures of Ireland, and portraits of the likes of Samuel Beckett, Lady Gregory, and James Joyce. Its Faneuil Hall location draws as many tourists as locals, but nightly shows, beginning at 9:30, by traditional Irish and contemporary musicians, make it worth braving the crowds.

Purists might sneer at the Black Rose's touristy location, but performers don't. Sing along with the authentic entertainment at this jampacked pub and restaurant at the edge of Faneuil Hall Marketplace. You might even be able to make out the tune on a fiddle over the din.

The Black Rose draws tourists and locals alike into a jovial drinking atmosphere. The bartenders here know how to pour a pint of Guinness, and most will have a brogue, too.
