First visit I brought a nice 1945 merc dime. They told me it was AU "at best" and that it had been cleaned!. The second time I went, I was real proud of this Presidential dollar I had aquired without the edge inscriptions, well they told me it was fake, and actually accused me of "grinding off the letters". his scale even said so! supposedly it weighed less than it should....well I had those coins sumitted to PCGS through another coin shop. The dime came back MS-65 with FSB(Full split bands), and the Presidential Dollar came back "Mint Error/MS-65/Missing Edge Lettering"

Now today, the 3rd time I came in with this rather neat error. It is a 1973 D nickel that was srtuck on a Penny planchet. I paid 250 dollars for it, after looking at it at another shop for over a year. On my scale at home it weighs EXACTLY the same as a penny from the same year. Right off the bat, he weighed it, and it was way off, the he weighed some old penny, and came right at me with "thats not struck on a penny!" I asked "well whats it struck on?" we said It looks like you....get this..."Grinded off some of metal to make it weigh less than a nickel" and proceeded to argue with me the customer and treat me like some sort of idiot.

So the Coin is getting submitted to PCGS tomorrow.. we will see I guess.

3 visits to this coin shop has told me 1 thing. This is a coin shop that doesnt know coins. They will undergrade and undervalue your coins, and overgrade and overvalue their coins. and their customer service is absolutely the worst I have ever experienced.

I will never step foot in that store again. And if you are looking to get some coins appraised, look elsewhere.

I ended up submitting a few coins to NGC rather than PCGS, The "Nickel struck on a penny" was one of them. It came back with this on the slab:
1973 D 5c struck on 1c planchet 3.11grams
MINT ERROR MS-62 BN

so there you have it...proof positive of their lack of knowledge as a so called coin dealer. And if you are the man behind the counter that day, and you are reading this, then you might remember me, because I showed the slabs to you when I got them back. Cant really argue with a certified coin now can you?
