Today marks the end of the road for City Tavern. The Colonial-style restaurant and bar from the people behind Chicago Firehouse is shuttering after a rocky under-two years in business on South Michigan Avenue.

Ownership provided a short statement that reads in part that "future plans for the space are undetermined at this time. Thank you for your patronage over the last two years."

An 18th century–inspired tavern, this South Loop haunt has a midpriced menu of New American gastropub fare, tankards of beer (the list nears 100) and vintage cocktails; the onetime Grace O'Malley's space has time-traveled backwards and now boasts federal blue walls, Windsor chairs and period-style chandeliers to transporting effect.

As 2013 winds down we look back at all of the chef shuffles that have occurred over the past 12 months. There were indeed some big shockers, as well as some instances where chefs bounced from one place to the next and restaurants that had multiple turnovers in their kitchens. We recount the most significant below.

Is there a better day to eat brunch than New Year's Day? A sizable portion of Chicago's population will be hungover and in need of greasy comfort food and perhaps some "hair of the dog." This is a GREAT new addition to Chicago's South Loop growing restaurant collection. Prices are right, food is great and the staff is soooo friendly. GOOD BOOZE! Small, micro breweries/distilleries. Fun and local.
