can't reach residents during emergencies:
Continental Management uses a private cell phone to contact people after hours. It is set to private so if your phone was set to reject private callers as mine was you will not be able to speak to them. I didn't realize that my settings were preventing them from reaching me. I kept calling back and had to tell the story to a different receptionist each time. I wanted to just say I was returning their call; they wouldn't have that.
Scott Sauter the owner of the company informed me in person the next morning that I had to unblock my phone if I wanted to speak to them after hours. It didn't occur to me that I could change my settings and they could get through to me. But it should have occurred to them as it is their system, and their problem to solve.
I think their priority is to prevent residents and owners from being able to see Continental’s phone number even though we are paying them to speak to us on the phone. It is their "set up", they could make it work. I know I could do so if I was a manager. There are other phone technologies and options, or they could simply say, "Make sure your phone isn't blocking private callers!". Or they could answer their own phone.
I had water coming out of the ceiling. Amanda Harland, the manager on duty, informed me through voice mail that their company wasn't responsible for plumbing, I think she thought her work was done. But this is a ten-story building, there are four units above me and the management has to locate the leak in one of them. Amanda Harland doesn't have a clue. I recommend asking for someone other than Ms. Harland, obviously. She might have mentioned that I could try changing the phone settings so she could get through to me on the phone, but she would have needed the foresight to recognize why she wasn't able to get through. Again, I could make that work if I were doing it, unfortunately Continental Management, Scott Sauter and Amanda Harland might not figure out how to do it.
If you are looking for a management company for your condo, keep looking. Find someone who can answer and make phone calls.
