We recently found Lyctid Beetles inside our Basque Honey 69'' Media Console starting to hatch and coming out destroying the back of the furniture and making a mess ( fine talcum powder-like frass coming out of tiny round holes in the wood ). We did our research and found that wood was not properly prepared and stored. Lyctid beetles are typically introduced into a home as eggs or larvae in wood that has been improperly stored or dried. They have a relatively short life cycle and an infestation can spread to unpainted wood surfaces within a year or two. The female lays her eggs in the pores of the wood and if these pores are filled with a paint or stain, the wood will not be susceptible to infestation.
That's so ironic that the piece of wood that has sticker " QUALITY INSPECTED " is full of tiny tunnels through the wood. Additionally, every time I wipe the dust off, damp cloth is getting brown from the stain!!! I called Crate&Barrel customer service telling about the problem to exchange our tv console. (One lady said she is surprised because they had this problem only with furniture imported from Indonesia... ) They showed us two new Basque Honey Media Consoles but the color was different than the one we have! We really wanted to like it but yellow honey doesn't match our other cognac honey color furniture...

We are very disappointed because we have thought that Crate and Barrel makes quality (and you know that not cheap ) items. We lost our time getting to CB distribution center, time on the phone (every time it was very hard to get to talk with someone who would actually help with this issue - even when I said the name of the person I was talking to before). You can imagine what we were going through. As an unsatisfied customer I asked if they can offer us at least a discount for the another purchase in future (ex. for console from other collection) as a compensation. They said they can give us only 10% off... For comparison, Bed Bath and Beyond gives 20% off constantly with no reason.

We will never buy again anything from Crate&Barrel (and we used to spent a lot there). As a huge furniture chain they don't care anymore about customers, products they sell and to provide good customer service.
