In its youth, Crumpets helped to bring San Antonio into the modern restaurant world. Green peppercorns, it is safe to say, made their first appearance in the city here. But the conservative crowd that now dominates the clientele has aged along with the menu, and diners currently seem content with the likes of baked Brie with toasted almonds, ham-stuffed mushrooms and cold shrimp with rémoulade....
