Cypress Hills National Cemetery was opened in 1862 and is located in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. It is the only United States National Cemetery in the city and was established to honor Civil War veterans and civilians. With over 21,100 interments, this historic cemetery is the final resting place of several notable soldiers. It features on the National Register of Historic Places.
