This is a long-time neighborhood soul-food and jazz hangout but it looks spiffy, not old. Starters are half price until 6:30 pm. It's Reggae night on Tuesdays, and glorified chicken and waffles on Wednesdays. Cover is $3 for live bands and theatergoers receive dining discounts.
"Devoted" followers of owner Darryl Settles "can't go wrong" at this "relaxed" South Ender as they "sit back and enjoy" "amazing" American fare with a "tasty" Southern "twist" served by staffers who "take care" of them; live jazz in the evenings and for Sunday brunch is another reason it's "worth checking out."
Darryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen Restaurant Review:
Owner Darryl Settles has turned the former Bob the Chef's location into a sleek, Southern-inspired restaurant. Area students and South End hipsters flock to Darryl's for the live jazz, R&B and reggae that plays every night. Start with a whiskey smash to wash down an order of fried catfish strips or Cajun crab cakes, and don’t miss the bacon barbecue cheeseburger with sweet potato fries....
