Terrible Customer Service:
We have faithfully brought our vehicle, which we bought new at Dick Hannah Kia, in for scheduled maintenance every 7,500 miles. We have never been wonderfully happy with the customer service overall, but it has been acceptable. During our last scheduled maintenance appointment we were told that the battery suddenly went dead while our vehicle was at the dealership. We had not had any problems with the vehicle or the battery, but we do understand this could happen. The dealership offered to change out the battery, but my husband indicated that he would prefer to do it instead of paying them to do it, as this is not a warranty item. The service manager seemed very put off by the fact that we did not want to pay to have the battery replaced. The dealership jumped the vehicle and it made a very strange sound when jumped but then ran fine. We drove it home and replaced the battery the next morning. When we started the van after replacing the battery the van made the strange noise again and then would not start at all. The starter was out. We immediately called the dealership and were that in addition to batteries that can just die at a moment's notice, so can starters. When we did not accept the unlikely coincidence that the battery and starter when out within 24 hours of each other just "because" the dealership indicated that because we did not have them change the battery, they could not accept any responsibility for the starter, because we might have broken it. My husband has changed many batteries in his day and knows that he did not have to do anything to the starter to change the battery.

Now, while we believe that our issues started while our vehicle was at the dealership, we suppose it is true that the battery and starter could have gone out within hours of each other and it could have been in no way the fault of the dealership. Whether they made a mistake or not, the way they immediately blamed us and did not even investigate what could have happened was appalling. We had the van towed back to the dealership where they confirmed the starter was out. We were supposed to leave on a 3 week road trip the next day. They informed us that they would be unable to locate a Kia starter anywhere in the Portland Metro area for a number of days. As a "loyal Dick Hannah customer" we indicated that was unacceptable, especially since there was a very likely chance that they in fact caused the problem in the first place. It took a total of 8 telephone calls between my husband and me with threats to camp out on the showroom floor for someone to call us back with a solution. This is completely unacceptable. If someone in the service department made a mistake and broke something that is OK, mistakes happen, just fix it. If it was truly an amazingly unfortunate coincidence, then do not just blame your "loyal customer" and say, "too bad". I expect a dealership with the types of resources Dick Hannah has to make it right. Eventually after having to be very unpleasant on the phone with a number of people, the dealership did decide to put an after-market starter in our van to get us on the road. They also agreed to reimburse us for our nonrefundable hotel reservations that we missed due to starting our vacation late (after we insisted). They promised the check would be waiting for us when we got back to town 3 weeks later and that they would then put in a Kia starter. When we arrived back home, the reimbursement check was not here. We waited a week and then called. They had not done a thing about it. We did get the check after bugging them some more. When we brought the van back in to get the starter put in I was not given a receipt that listed the Kia starter part number. I called to get an invoice that would like the part number but was told they could not issue me a new invoice. I just hope they actually put a Kia starter in the van. It is the first thing I will have the new dealership we work with
check.

We will never return to Dick Hannah and we will make sure to tell our friends to do the same.
