Steer Clear:
I want to start off by saying that my family & I have had a very bad experience with Stephen Souders from Discovery Homes. I would not recommend this company to anyone & would go with a different company if I could do it over. I am writing this review because I wish I would have had a review to read to steer me clear of this company.

After we finalized the purchase of our home everything went south. We moved out of our existing home on 4/26/13 & Steve told us it would take 2 weeks till we could move into our new home. It ended up taking 4 weeks & there were many excuses on why it was delayed. One of those excuses was the weather, specifically rain. We checked on the progress of our home every day & they weren't working even on sunny days. I later found out that he scheduled to install another home at the same time as ours & this was the reason for the delay.

When we finally did move in they were still working on the home's drywall. Steve had to hire two different people to patch our drywall. The first guy was horrible & had to redo everything after his first attempt. The second guy was better but to this day the corner pieces are coming off & cracks are reappearing. There was also a lot of poor workmanship throughout the home.

The next problem was that our yard had been destroyed during the build, which Steve promised to fix. Steve failed to estimate the amount of dirt needed to make our home code compliant. He needed to bring in extra & asked me to pay half of the $2400 needed. I told him I couldn't do that. After months of trying to get him to fix it he began to refuse to do anything. He said he couldn't afford it & that he spent too much money on the extra dirt. This he said he did, "out of the kindness of his heart." Then he proceeded to insult me & my family. In October 2013 (5 months later & after the growing season) Steve brought in not nearly enough dirt & didn't fix the ruts in the yard from the equipment. He also didn't put any grass seed down. So now our yard is a bunch of dirt with some hay strewn across it.

The next issue is with our furnace. We needed a licensed tech to come out & convert it for propane use. During that visit he wasn't able to fully test the system because a pressure switch was missing. He noticed screw holes in the metal where the part should have been- showing that the part was removed & not missing from the factory. I tried working this out with Steve but he was unwilling to help me saying, "it was a warranty issue" & left me on my own to figure it out. I called the warranty department who confirmed that it was definitely not their issue & that I needed to contact the salesperson for the home. Steve was adamant that it wasn't his problem so I got in touch with the manufacturer of our home (Colony Manufactured Homes.) They were willing to send me the part at no cost & pay for it to be installed even though it wasn't their responsibility.

Next is one of our storm doors. It was shipped with the hinges on the wrong side to be compatible with our stairs. Installing it this way would be a fire escape hazard since the door would open the wrong way & then block the exit down the stairs. Our storm door has been sitting in our family room for over 7 months waiting for the replacement. There have been many excuses as to why the door hasn't come but with no results. Today is 1/1/14 and this issue is still ongoing.

Having all of these issues wasn't the primary problem. It is the way that Steve handles them. He takes no responsibility for the things that go wrong. When you contact him to get things resolved you are met with yelling & insults or he doesn't even respond. His way of dealing with customers is to abuse them until they give up.

All in all my experience with Steve and Discovery Homes was extremely bad. I would highly suggest finding a different company.
