Took 15 year old to Dr. Zabat after complaining of shoulder pain the presented after sports activity. Dr. Zabat diagnosed it as a sprained muscle. Two weeks and one x ray and one MRI, Dr. Zabat assured us it was not structural and continued to treat as a sprained muscle. My son had shooting pain, numbness; loss of strenghty. Zabat prescribed pain killers and muscle relaxer, along with PT, but did not consider it may be something worse than a sprained muscle. PTs did not agree with Zabat's course of treatment. After 4th visit and no change of treatment "he's going to have to suck up the pain to get to the other side"), we went for a second opinion. A second MRI revealed a broken rib and injured brachial plexus which was causing a "violent cycle of nerve spams". A new course of treatment was prescribed and after nearly 5 months, my son is finally feeling relief. This is a serious, complex injury with a months vs. years heal time.
