Tips

Know Before You Go: Lines are long on weekends and they don't take reservations. Belly up to the bar and wait it out.

Parking: Valet is available, but if it's early enough, you can find a meter on Beverly.

cool atmosphere, wretched food:
The margaritas are hallucinogenic but the food is atrocious. The interior is very cool though - filled with kitsch. Sharon Tate had her last meal here.

With over-the-top decor that's "right out of an old Carmen Miranda movie", this "LA institution" on Beverly Boulevard still offers a "festive atmosphere after 80 years in business"; the Mexican "comfort food" is "nothing special", but it's "nice for the price" and served by a "staff as cool as a margarita."

This place has been around even when I was a kid and I'm not surprised. I would put their guacamole through an IV if I could!

Information from the business

Family owned & operated since 1931. For years, people from all walks of life have returned over and over again, drawn by the friendly atmosphere, authentic California style Mexican food and the reasonable prices. One of the most popular items in El Coyote's Mexican Pizza, an appetizer recipe certain to go well with the most popular drink, an El Coyote Margarita.
