Believe Your Plumber:
I had an emergency and had empire come out. I didn't see them in Yelp, but found them online at www.empirecares.com. I had water pouring out from under one of my walls. Roy came out and found the problem to be a broken pipe under the slab. My heart sank. I had a broken pipe under the slab before, not in this home, and it cost over $10,000 to fix with all the flooring and wall repair. It was a nightmare.
Roy was able to determine that the leak below the concrete was located directly under my bathroom cabinet. He removed the cabinet and jack hammered the floor up. A few hours later he was putting the cabinet back in place and you could not even tell that the foundation had been opened up. The concrete patch was located only under the cabinet.
This is kinda long, but needs to be spread around. I really appreciate the way the bathroom was cordoned off with plastic sheeting and drop cloths were put down on all the floors. It was clean and neat the entire time. Roy offered to call my insurance company, but I already had. Just as Roy was finishing the insurance adjuster called and told me to stop the plumber from working as he was sending over his own plumber. It was weird. Within 2 minutes of hanging up with the insurance adjuster, who was quite angry, the new plumber arrived at the door.
The guy was a Bubba for sure. A beat pick up truck with no labels or anything. He walked in the door and without even looking at the work told me he could do the entire job for $2200. That is when I told him that Roy was less than that and the job was already done. I asked him for a business card and then looked him up online. It turns out that the person the insurance company sent out was not even a licensed plumber.
Beware of your insurance company and let the pros, like Roy at Empire, do the work. I am trying to find the information from the last plumbing disaster I had, in which the plumber was recommended by the insurance company, that cost me over $10,000. I just wonder if I was duped by the insurance adjuster.
Empire was great and the entire job only cost me $500.
