blatantly bad service:
i first went to eugene's looking for someone to dye my white dress shoes for a reasonable price. he gave me a vast array of colors to choose from and i decided on a fuschia color. i think i found him in best of baltimore, so i was expecting a great job.

when i came back a week later, i was shocked. it looked like a 4 year old had used watercolors on my shoes. the color was more like a dirty lavender, extremely uneven, and the bottom of the shoe was stained. he said it'd never happened to him before and doesn't know what went wrong and i said i understood...he offered to try it again by putting another coat on and that he would call me. he never called. i had to call to check on it and when i came in again, it still looked like c@!p. i didn't know what to do, so i took my shoes, and came back a few months later and decided to go for a grey (hopefully achievable), and if not, black. he appeared to not want to have anything to do with the job, thinking it wouldn't work, and told me to do it myself. that's right, he said, oh it's simple, just do it yourself. um....ok. i told him he was the professional and that he'd better do it since he basically left me with an unusable shoe. he finally agreed and said he would call to tell me if the grey would work.

he never called. i came back a few weeks later and he showed me the small portion that he dyed grey. it wasn't working and so i just said it would have to be black. i told him that he had to call me this time...i was getting pretty frustrated with the whole situation.

he finally called! the black came out fine on my shoes, finally, but then he had the nerve to charge me full price $19.95 for the job. i said he had to be kidding...i made four or five visits to him during the entire ordeal, he rarely called me when he said he was going to, he tried to brush me off the second time i visited, and, ultimately, what i got in the end was not what i originally wanted. he refused, saying he spent $10 on supplies and that he spent all this time on it, so that he had to charge at least $15. i said that i only wanted to pay for supplies since my time was also wasted for constantly making trips to his shop, but he refused. he even said that if i wasn't going to pay, he would take my shoes and sell them for $20. when i told him this is not how someone conducts business, he said, to my astonishment, that yes, he was an awful person, so sue him.

i can't believe my experience with eugene, i don't know how he manages to keep his customers
