I recently purchased this year a brand new 2009 SUV valued over $35K. The vehicle was serviced for an oil change. I noticed oil under my vehicle after they completed the job. They dismissed it as excess oil drippings. Later that day, I noticed a lot of oil collecting on my driveway under the SUV. I decided to check things myself, so I crawled under the SUV and was shocked to find that the oil drain plug bolt was loose! I was loosing oil because they failed to actually tighten the bolt! I then hand tightened it immediately called the shop, and had a very "emotional" and lively discussion with the shop manager. At this point, my trust level with this business dropped to "-1". After revisiting the shop, the manager tightened the bolt, apologized greatly and offered a free oil change at the next visit, although I wanted a refund so I wouldn't have to come back ever again. He was very cordial and sympathetic and handled the unfortunate situation very well. My concern is how can they make such a blatant mistake of NOT tightening the oil pan bolt?? There better be a review of the mistake and an action plan to take measures (quality control) to prevent such blunders in the future. There is absolutely no excuse for such a mistake. An overlook of this nature could have cost me a complete engine replacement!
