The design of this stately painted-brick house is attributed to Peter Harrison, the same architect behind Touro Synagogue and the Redwood Library. A lavish inn with period reproduction furnishings, the 1760 main house overlooks a private courtyard with a fountain and across the street to the harbor. In 1996, nine modern rooms were added in a wing attached to this original 1760 Colonial house. They are very nice, with king-size beds and excellent reproductions of period furniture. Four of them share two sunken gardens, and three have Jacuzzi tubs built for two. Given a choice, though, take a room in the old section, where antiques outnumber repros, Oriental rugs adorn buffed wide-board...
