Oustanding Food and Service:
For the past two years, we have had a large company dinner on April 17th at Gabriella. Pietro has closed the restaurant for us each time (this last time just one day before his reopening!). For this dinner event, we bring in our associates (usually 50-55 people) from all over the U.S. for several days, and they are picky when it comes to food. Of all the restaurants we have used in the last several years while our coworkers are here (and there aren't many good restaurants in and around the Harrisburg area that can easily accommodate a group this size), this is by far the most popular restaurant with our bunch. There isn't anything like this place and it was as big of a hit this year as it was last year, if not more so.
First, the new bar area was a tremendous improvement to the layout. Nicely laid out and the dark wood added a nice ambience to the front part of the restaurant. The exterior is much more appealing. The size of the restaurant is still on the small size but we knew that already and it lends itself to more intimate groups of diners. I was pleased to see the murals on the wall remained.
We were treated like royalty. John, one of the wait staff, remembered my wine selection from the previous year and immediately had a glass poured for me. The wait staff in general was nothing short of outstanding. We were, of course, the restaurant's only customers that night but they all were attentive without hovering. There were a lot of us to take care of all at once. It was an elaborate menu for our group: We started with a selection of passed and table appetizers (broiled crab cakes, clams casino, sauteed asparagus, grilled homemade sausace, and sauteed portobello mushrooms), followed by a defined selection of entrees from which to choose: Piatto di Mare (my favorite), Shrimp Francese, Manicotti, Eggplant Contadina, Chicken Oscar, or Veal Marsala, plenty of choices for even the vegetarians in our group. All entrees came out in rapid succession so that no one waited any great length of time for their food. I cannot say enough about the way we were treated, whether it was clearing plates, refilling water glasses, drinks being served, etc. It was the highlight of our many meals together during this company event, and there's no question we will be back again since this place is becoming our tradition now.
We had a fabulous time at Gabriella and the food here is outstanding. Reading the few negative comments is surprising because having been to the restaurant even in smaller groups, the food has always been terrific and I would highly recommend this restaurant for its outstanding food and service. There are few (very few) restaurants of this caliber in Harrisburg, and having personally lived in Connecticut, on Long Island, and for a long time now in central PA, this restaurant ranks up there in quality, hands down. And to Pietro, who worked so diligently to accommodate our group again this year following many months of being closed, thank you! We'll be back!
