Tips

Thank goodness for the BYOB fine dining trend. Goosefoot, everyone's pick for a best new restaurant in 2011 despite its anonymous location in a Lawrence Avenue storefront, was a huge shot in the arm to Lincoln Square's fine dining scene. Make reservations FAR in advance.

Oddly enough, goose feet are not on the menu at Goosefoot. It would be easy to be upset about this outrageous oversight if the rest of the dishes were not so incredible. Goosefoot is primarily a tasting room for small, high-concept dishes, but also features an eight-course dinner menu. The small portions and delicate dishes will make you appreciate each bite, which is rare in a world where everything is so insanely super-sized.

Editorial Reviews

Dining is an "event" at this big-ticket New American in Lincoln Square where Chris Nugent's "finely thought out" tasting menus yield "creative, beautiful and delicious" plates in a simple, upscale-casual space; it's BYO, but the "helpful" staff will assist in "selecting the wine before coming" – just note the tiny surrounds mean scoring reservations can be "very difficult."

Goosefoot Restaurant Review:
Chris Nugent (ex-Les Nomades) has crafted something decidedly neighborhood in feel, while keeping his high-style, ingredient and technique-driven approach intact. The restaurant’s name, which refers to a plant family, nods to its farm-to-table focus, while eight- and 12-course tastings build upon Nugent’s compositions past. That may mean loup de mer, accented by Meyer lemon and sunchokes with...
