Crowds of cool Allston students and greater Boston music fans rock hard until closing at Great Scott, which books an impressive lineup of local and visiting indie rock bands (from 9 pm) and comedy acts (from 7 pm) in live double and triple bills on a varying rotation nearly every night. Check out Friday night's Brit-pop indie-dance night.
"Catch bands on their way up" and groove to "indie rock" at this "time-tested", cash-only Allston dive that may be among the "dingier venues" in town but is still "good for music"; brace yourself for a "hipster spawning ground", complete with "cheap drinks", "PBRs and rock guitars."
Worth the trek to the student mecca of Allston, Great Scott is a friendly neighborhood bar that happens to be an excellent live-music venue. It books mostly rock bands, usually local, plus DJs. On a busy night you might see four different acts. Open daily from noon to 2am; live shows usually start at 9pm. The bar accepts cash only.
The melting pot of Boston indie culture. With live music and DJs - everything from international upstarts and favored local punters and long running indie dance nights like The Pill – it's a menagerie of cross genre musical style. Nothing much to look at, however. The one time frat bar still echoes with sporty ambience. Just don't tell the huddle of art students smoking outside all night.
