It's la, find another organization:
Myself and my group have volunteered there in the past - they made it seem they valued our time and seemed quite pleased with our work ethic. In November I tried to set up another date to volunteer an organization that supposedly runs on volunteers. The director sent me a reply asking if instead of the requested date we could do another date, a few days later I confirmed. No response from him. I wrote again as I now had 8 people waiting on me to confirm and still no response. A week later I wrote again and no response. Wondering what was supposed to be happening since the date was now a week away I wrote to him again requesting info and he wrote to me such a rude and disrespectful email it's crazy. He stated he didn't have time to respond to my email basically bc he's a busy man but yet he apparently had the time to compose a message and rant and rave at me when he deems it fit. He basically berated me for only trying to volunteer once a year even though myself and my group only volunteer THERE once a year bc it's really, really far from us. Plus we had been under the impression they would like us back. He obviously thinks if you don't volunteer with them frequently then you just aren't helping out communities at all the rest of the year. He insulted myself and the rest of our people who really only wanted to help.

Regarding the initial experience I do have to say there are places to volunteer that are safer. You go out into the streets to feed the homeless that are out there and there is no way to guarantee your safety. They stuff you in like a converted food truck and you drive out to the setup site with no restraints/seatbelts careening thru the streets of LA and there is virtually no crowd control of the homeless. It can be scary. We tried to come back bc we thought they really needed the help, that's how they made it seem last year.
