Totally negligent:
We've been using Greenfield clinic for many years as it is conveniently located and we were getting adequate care. Over the past four years I noticed a mass growing on my dog's thigh. At every visit (at least twice a year) I kept asking Dr. Winnie and Dr. Handke what it is, and both were reassuring me that it was just lipoma. Finally, my dog became lethargic, refused food, and was screaming with pain when touched. Dr. Handke looked at him, pulled his leg, and announced that it was arthritis. He prescribed anti-inflammatory medication. Again, I asked about the mass and he again said it was a lipoma. Next day after we started medication, all symptoms disappeared including lethargy and lack of appetite. I called the clinic and asked if I could talk to the vet as it was surprising for me how the anti-inflammatory drug would so quickly improve appetite and wasn't there any underlying cause. The receptionist refused to let me talk to the vet and rather angrily stated that it was just arthritis. Finally, 3 weeks later, the 'lipoma' got very hard, hot, and red. We took the dog to a different vet who had performed an emergency surgery and excised a huge mast cell tumor that already progressed to grade 2. I can't express how disappointed and angry I am with Greenfield vets. Not only they did not do a simple fine needle biopsy to at least confirm that it was lipoma (the first step recommended by several Google sites as I found out later), but even later when there were obvious symptoms, Dr. Handke could not put one and one together. HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL! I don't have time or desire to sue the clinic, and no money will bring my dog's health back, but these people should not be allowed to practice.

In 2006 when Dr. Babik decided to reduce the number of hours he wished to practice, Dr. Winnie took over as medical director. Dr. Babik officially retired in November 2008.
