Okay if you know what you have:
I had a different experience. I sold some gold and silver coins for a very slight discount to gold spot and at silver spot, and bought some slabbed gold coins at a reasonable premium. You should know what you have, though, as the other reviewer said. I have collected coins for a very long time and he knows that. Only offered spot minus 3 percent for some pretty premium collectible 200 year old uncirculated slabbed gold which typically go on eBay etc. for over 25-50% more than spot. I just said no, and he understood. I just figured he didn't want to make a market in those types of coins, and only wanted to deal with it if he could treat them like bullion.
