Hinoki & the Bird Restaurant Review:
Hinoki & the Bird may be hidden away in The Century luxury condominium building in Century City, but that hasn't hindered diners from descending upon this restaurant. The space encompasses a sizeable main dining room with a bar on one side and open kitchen on the other, plus a patio with retractable roof. By nature of the design materials --- wood, glass, cement --- the room can get very noisy....
"Refined, but not precious" sums up the "inventive" Japanese cuisine at this "pricey" Century City entry from David Myers dispensing small and large plates in a "beautiful" rustic room scented with hinoki wood (it "smells like a wonderful sauna"); with interesting seasonal cocktails, the "bar area is a scene" too.
David Myers won a Michelin star at Sona, but with Hinoki & The Bird, he seems to be aiming for more approachable elegance. Installed at The Century, Robert A.M.
