I couldn't ask for better:
I am not their regular client; our vets recommended HwdAH for emergencies because HwdAH is a teaching hospital with a 24/7 intensive care unit and 17 vets.
Cedric, our then 12 year old GSP rescue, had a stroke. The moment I pushed the emergency bell at HwdAH, the staff and gurney were there, got the dog into a treatment room, and connected stabilizing and diagnostic equipment. Dr. Lavalle was wonderful, as were all the others who worked on Cedric. I was incredibly impressed. Unfortunately, the story did not end well for Cedric, and again the staff were wonderful when I brought family and dogs to say goodbye. And, amazingly, there was no charge for the emergency and follow-up services.
More recently, Ernest, a now 12 year old GSP rescue, was spiked by another dog in a local dog park. Two inches of brain showing through the gash in his skull. Dr. Romano and staff acted immediately, and within hours, Ernest was patched up and on his way home for rest and recuperation. The bill was $212 including anaesthesia and everything else. Ernest is fully recovered and a joy. I will transfer our three dogs to HwdAH as soon as I can figure out how to explain to our longtime and greatly valued vets that we aren't leaving them as much as preparing for end-of-life situations, canine and human.
