Description

International Paper is committed to fiber recovery, recycling and recycled materials. Recycling not only diverts a valuable resource from landfill disposal, it also reduces the environmental footprint of paper and packaging products. The combination of wood fiber from well-managed forests and high product recovery rates make paper and paper products some of the most sustainable products in the marketplace. In fact, the fiber in most of the products we manufacture can be recovered and used to make new paper, container board, coated paperboard or corrugated boxes. With a recent acquisition of additional recycling facilities, our system now recovers, processes and will manage over 8 million tons of fiber in 2008. International Paper encourages customers to work with us to improve product recovery in order to reduce paper disposal in land fills, help keep prices for recovered fiber affordable and promote the wise use of paper and packaging products. With 19 recycling facilities across the United States, fifteen International Paper container board mills, and a significant national brokerage system, the company collects, consumes, and markets more than eight million tons of recovered paper annually. We collect and process this recovered paper at our own plants as well as buy paper from outside sources. The recovered paper is then used by our mills to create new paper products or is sold to other manufacturers worldwide. International Paper offers a full-service, worldwide recycling business focused on: Collection, sorting and processing of paper from schools, offices, printers, retailers, and manufacturers Purchase of paper from outside sources for use by International Paper?s fifteen container board mills to create new paper products with recycled content Sale of recovered paper to outside manufacturers for use in creating new paper products Our company supports and works to meet the strong global demand for recovered paper. Collecting waste-paper is valuable and necessary, because it diverts materials from land fills. Further, the use of wood fiber encourages landowners to manage their forest lands sustainably for economic value, as well as future enjoyment, because we all play a critical role in ensuring the long-term health and sustainability of our forests for future generations.
