Editorial Reviews

"Kitchen wizard" Jose Andres is the mind behind this "lively" Spanish chainlet fielding both "classic" and "inventive" small plates that continue to "define the genre"; sure, the "reasonable prices are deceptive", since the bill "can add up quickly", but fans insist it's more that worth it "when you can't afford a trip to Spain"; P.S. the modernist avant-garde decor at the Penn Quarter outlet...

After an extensive renovation and total facelift, José Andrés' primo tapas restaurant further distinguishes this notable chef. In addition to the décor, the menu was also enlivened with an injection of pure Spanish ingredients --- think Serrano ham, for one --- and the bar is full of ritzy cocktails, including an Andrés martini that tickles the palate.

This casual restaurant takes its name from John Singer Sargent's painting El Jaleo. A large mural of a flamenco dancer, based on Sargent's work, adorns a wall in the restaurant and sets the casual tone of the interior. Jaleo is the perfect place to drink sangria, devour tasty tapas and tantalize your taste buds with paella. Flamenco dancers entertain the crowd on Wednesday evenings.
