Avoid the headache:
I don't go around writing 1 star reviews and this was written 3 years ago, but I feel compelled to share due to hearing from other people who have faced similar problems.

Nearly half of my $1500 deposit was taken out! Honestly, if they had given me back 2/3 of the deposit, I wouldn't have complained. I could have hired professional cleaners for less, but I was confident I could do the job myself. Guess not.

Larry is nice enough, and the people working for him are nice to your face, but there was an issue in the past where they were not shredding confidential information that was used for applications. I thought maybe these previous reviews were exaggerated or maybe not the best tenants until I experienced it myself. I created an account to leave my first review regarding my experience. I was given inaccurate information upon signing the lease, spent well over 20 hours cleaning the apartment I rented (better than when I moved in -- I have pictures and videos as proof -- there was black mold and items left by contractors), and I still got billed for 11 hours of "cleaning". Does it really take that long to clean a place that has already been pretty throughly cleaned?

I understand why carpet cleaning would be taken out of the deposit -- I was told the carpet would be professionally cleaned when we moved in, but there were still stains and it was black around the edges. Other than normal wear and tear, there was no damage and I have pictures before we moved in and after we moved out. I don't believe a walk-through was done before we moved in, and even though I requested that I be there for the walk-through after we moved out, that did not happen.

It is borderline fraudulent for a rental company to take money out of a "refundable" deposit to clean the property when a tenant has done their best to keep the place clean, and also clean it for the next tenants. There are certain things that fall under the leaser's responsibility, and I don't believe that a tenant should pay for "steam cleaning linoleum" when they have scrubbed and mopped every inch of it.

In the past, I've rented from private owners and companies, and if there was an issue with ventilation in the bathroom, they would have provided a dehumidifier or another solution. Tenants shouldn't have to live with black mold and un-repaired walls from leaking pipes and smoke filling the living room because the front door has a huge gap. Granted, they did send maintenance for certain issues, but they kept coming up, and I had to miss class and work to wait on occasion. For an entire weekend, we were left without water, and because of faulty wiring, half of our electricity kept shutting off!

Summary -- avoid the headache! They might not actually be profiting off your deposit, but they are avoiding paying out of their own! You know it's bad when one of their contractors says negative things about them to you!

Don't Take Care of the Property Entrusted to Them:
I am a local property owner that has had horrible experience with Kampfer. They do not take care of the property or monitor the tenant behavior, even when there is drug use and things that damage the property. They just let it go on and in the meantime the owner is completely unaware. I would never recommend Kampfer. If you want to protect your investment, look elsewhere!
