My dog died! Neglect!:
My beloved dog died due to neglect.
I took my beloved dog to Dr. Buchanan because he has an "animal hospital." My dog had vomited and was acting as though he wasn't feeling well. I explained to the nurse that my dog was my best friend and I wanted to make sure he would be seen quickly. She assured me that my dog would get prompt treatment. She stated that an IV would be started. She told me she would call me in an hour or two. After 3 hours and not receiving a call, I called their office. I was told that my dog was "up next" and they would call me. Another two hours passed with no call. I called again. This time the receptionist acted as though I was a nuisance and said, "we will call you when we know what is wrong." So, I waited another 3 hours. I was getting ready to call again when my phone rang. It was Dr. Buchanan. He simply said, "I'm sorry but your pet has passed away." I was in shock and couldn't believe my ears! As I was crying he added, "We were so busy and we FORGOT about Oscar." Long story short, my long time pal had not been seen AT ALL, all day long! When I went in, (crying, of course) I was taken aback when Dr. Buchanan's hateful office attendant came out with a black bag and handed it over to me! Why couldn't they have at least left him in his little bed that I had left/provided?! How cold hearted! Dr. Buchanan admitted his neglect, but acted as though what happened didn't really matter. I called a lawyer who told me it would only cost a lot of money and little to be gained from a suit. I went to the newspaper. The paper wanted to do a story on it but gradually backed out. Since that time I have talked to three other people in Parker County who lost their pets while in Dr. Buchanan's "care" and in similar instances such as mine-neglect. My pet likely died of dehydration. It has been over a year and I still feel guilty for leaving my pet at what I thought was a "hospital" where he would get the BEST of care. I am angry with myself for trusting Dr. Buchanan and his staff to care for him. That day there were at least 4 staff working. I do not understand how that many people can "forget" about an animal they took in. And, even my calls did not prompt anyone to check the condition of my pet. It is my belief that Dr. Buchanan should not be a veterinarian at all! I never received an apology letter or anything from Buchanan. The pet owner has no recourse legally either. Maybe my review will save someone from losing their beloved friend.
