Evil horrible and filthy:
This is the absolute worse place to be in the staff are so mean towards the patients they don't answer questions and abuse those who need treatment. A girl was vomiting because of her gal bladder and a guy had to be taken to the hospital for copd at the last moment. It's absolutely filthy with scorpions, flies gnats and roaches. They do clean but not the trash and they use such harsh chemicals it's hard to breath. The staff will yell at you and it's so boring only allowed to color and watch television. And if you want to get out they cut the phone line. I was very disrespected there. I hate this place. Ps if you have spiritual views prepare to have them bashed I've also heard this place is built upon a satanic church.

Re-Reviewing: Nightmare Experience:
I am leaving my original review at the bottom of this new review, because KW Pines used to be a place that I trusted with my daughter's health. I would not send anyone there under ANY circumstances. Apparently the hospital has changed ownership in late 2010. The changes have NOT been for the better. My complaints are too numerous to detail here, so I will list-in no particular order- my concerns that I believe other loved ones would be concerned with if their family were in KW Pines. The adolescents are allowed to watch inappropriate (extremely violent, strong sexual content, taught how to make a bomb) movies that are chosen by the nursing staff. There were a minimum of 2 physical fights a day (this was in the girl's adolescent unit) where blood was drawn, hair was pulled out and left on the floor...girls were injured. My daughter became physically ill the second day she was there. I requested for her to see a Medical Doctor for her sore throat, cough, body aches, etc. A medical doctor NEVER saw her. i asked every single day for a medical doctor to see her. (I took her to her pediatrician when I checked her out AMA-she tested positive for the flu and a severe upper respiratory infection) I checked her out after 11-eleven- days, against medical advice. The entire staff repeatedly disregarded her diabetic diet. When I brought clean clothes for my daughter to be sent to her---you bring them to the front desk, then the staff from the ward is supposed to come down and get them and bring them up. It took 2 days---48 hours--for her to get the clean clothes, and that was only after I called repeatedly asking the nurses on her unit if she could please have her clean clothes. I don't believe they are following the printed schedule of all the wonderful group therapy they are supposed to be giving the kids. My daughter spoke of watching tv most of the time. They also let my daughter sleep through breakfast (although they did wake her to give her the medication that needed to be given with food--and with diabetes medication, it is very important that you eat something when you take the diabetes meds). I called at 12:30. My daughter was still asleep, except for waking her to give her the breakfast medication, then the lunch medication, they were still letting her sleep....not eating anything. Then I found out they were not even giving her some of the medications that she was supposed to be on everyday. Extremely bad experience. Foul mouthed nurses, cursing regularly at the patients, calling them bad names. There are many more complaints I could list. Please just don't take your loved one--or your worst enemy there. If I could give negative stars, I would. It is scary that all of that is going on behind closed doors up there.

Previous Review:
Took very good care of my daughter... first in child unit then in adolescent unit. Have only run across one bad nurses asst, and she was fired after complaints by the kids. Our doctor keeps in contact every day (not on weekends that he is not on call). They have a schedule for patients to follow, lots of group therapy--learning many different things--from social skills to basic hygiene to music and art therapy to fresh air recreation to learning about their mental illness to group therapy and individual therapy. Also family therapy as a group of all families that have a loved one in hospital (particular unit) at that time...and scheduled family therapy with patient and family with licensed therapist to help with individual problems. If your loved one is on a special diet, you do have to keep in close contact to make sure they are being fed correctly. That is the only reason I didn't give five stars. I believe that you need to be in close contact any and every time that loved one is in hospital these days period. I had to do that when my father was in St. Luke's downtown. Nurses are so short staffed these days....every bit you can do to advocate for and help with your loved one is needed and appreciated by nurses. Well, maybe not appreciated---but definitely needed by your loved one.

Poor excuse for a psych hospital:
First thing in admitting my son there was they wanted to give him a drug for seeing and hearing things which he was not or ever experienced. No, doctor had seen him or evaluated him, just wanted him drugged up. After telling them I didn't want him to be medicated the nurse called the doctor at his home and doctor told me that if I didn't like it to take my son out since they were not Meninger Clinic, and I was not a doctor. No, he had not even seen my son. If you are okay with your child drugged up with LEGAL drugs drop them there.
