Good Old-Fashioned Hardware Store:
Tall shelves crowded with all sorts of stuff, narrow aisles, clerks that usually know the products. Not the big box sort of store. Only downside is the narrow and small parking area.

Old fahsioned hardware store:
They seem to have everything in this small store. They are expensive but service oriented. They can offer advice on the most arcane home improvement projects. Great kitchen gadgets too.

The Best Hardware Store in LA:
I'm not a hardware guy, but I have to say that Koontz is the best hardware store in LA, probably one of the five best hardware stores I have ever been to. Koontz is an old fashioned hardware store; it is a throwback to the time before the big box stores. The service is great. The staff actually knows stuff...and can talk to you without consulting their manager. Typically, it takes under a minute or two to find what I am looking for and to get help. They have screws, bolts, hinges, power tools, lawn and garden suplies, cleaning supplies, coffee machines, signs, dollies, etc. Koontz is inside a building on Santa Monica Blvd. in the middle of West Hollywood, so it is not exactly a huge location and parking is tight. There are a few spaces in the back and on the street, so you might have a little trouble.
