Unfortunate Dilemma:
I love the technicians at Lavender; they’re excellent and always pleasant. It’s the owner, Kim, who’s a real dragon lady. She doesn’t keep her techs very long because they can’t endure her bullying and abuse. She berates them and yells at them in front of customers, apparently thinking she can get away with it because the customers don’t speak Vietnamese. I saw her drive one girl to tears. The worker who usually does my nails (who looks more stressed every time I visit,) confided to me that Kim had told that girl to spend less time on each customer, and had made her point with much profanity. I also learned that Kim insults us, ladies, her customers. But always in her native language, of course. And because of the poor economy and the dearth of available jobs, Kim feels she can force the beauticians to work as her janitors, as well. One worker recently injured herself when she fell from a table while being made to clean the ceiling. And be warned, girls: If you tip your technician at the register instead of giving it to her personally, Kim takes half of your tech’s gratuity. And if you choose a color treatment and then change your mind, don’t let Kim tell you that you have to pay because the color’s already been mixed; it turns out that’s not true, just one of her tricks to cheat the customer.

I would like to keep going to my regular tech there at Lavender, but I refuse to let another dollar of my money go to the dragon lady.
