You go to Doc to feel better...Not WORSE:
I visited MedCenter North immediately after a bad fall. My ankle/foot was swollen horribly and my 82 year old grandmother had drove me up to the door. My step sister got out and requested a wheel chair. The staff gave her a chair but did not help her get the chair out or help her get me in. The front desk staff watched me struggle to hold the door open while she rolled me in. The XRay technician did not have a great disposition - She was agitated I could not place my injured limb in the placements required for her scans. She was not patient - not rude- just not pleasant to work with. The doctor came in and said my xrays looked normal besides a bone that looked funny and described it as a mushy bone. The doctor said she wanted a second opinion so she was sending the images to the Radiology Clinic for a second opinion. The doctor said the results from the second reading would be available Saturday night or sometime Sunday. I called to check Saturday night and twice on Sunday before a staff member eventually told me the Radiology Clinic does not even look at images on the weekends so it would be Monday before I heard something. The whole staff is not at all on the same page much less in the same book. Also while I was there early Saturday morning at Medcenter, an individual came in and placed a brace on my extremely swollen foot/ankle and I cried from the pain so I requested to see the doctor again - I asked the doctor could I not take the brace off while so swollen and she said - of course I could .... not to place the brace on until swelling reduced. I went through uncalled for additional pain. I was never offered Tylenol or anything for pain. On Monday afternoon I called the Radiology Clinic directly to see what was going on with my XRays and the clinic informed me my results were already at Medcenter. I called Medcenter to get my results and the staff informed me they were busy so they would have to call me back.... mind you I have been waiting since Saturday..... I finally get a call back confirming that there was no evidence of a fracture or a break...but definitely evidence of swelling of the soft tissue. Medcenter never told me how often I should ice or anything. I actually ended up requesting Medcenter to forward me to an orthopaedic because my swelling was still so severe. Medcenter at this point told me I would need my scans for my UOC appointment. I am injured so I asked could my family member come pick up the files.... I was placed on hold and the voice over the phone came back and said - you do not have anyone on your form for permission to release info but who do you want to get it... I gave the name of my loved one and Medcenter stated the files would be waiting up front. My loved one arrived at the front desk and the staff refused to give the files because I did not sign a release form.... My loved one left and so I called and asked why did they say the person could come and then change the story.... Medcenter could not explain why one of the representatives gave me this answer. Medcenter then placed fault on me for not filling out the form - mind you I was in pain on the date of the visit - I asked the voice over the phone - If I missed a form - Why is the front desk staff not trained to catch that when collecting paperwork back? She said no completion of the form meant no release and they were trying to train the staff better to catch incomplete documentation. While on the phone I asked could the form be faxed to me and Heather responded yes. I asked why was this option not provided while my loved one was there so she would not have to make an additional trip. Again - no good response... The form was faxed to me and then my loved one drove back up to the office to collect the disk from the same people who told her only I could come injured and all... Medcenter's team was not customer service oriented. I was a checklist item... a obstacle to get through the work day... I was a number not a person. Medcenter needs to realize there are many facilities I can choose from and they should have seen being selected for my care as a privilege with competition in today's market. Upon going to the orthopaedic today - I have been informed I have a grade 3 sprain... minimum time off work 2 weeks ... 6 weeks physical therapy and a boot.... I am so happy I insisted on going to another doctor. The only nice person in my experience with Medcenter was Heather when she was cleaning up the mess over the phone faxing me the form. I feel this review is necessary so another does not receive the same care. I hope the problem is addressed. One goes to the doctor to feel better.... not worse....
