Buyer Beware:
I recently purchased about $440. Worth of aluminum from Metal Supermarket to build a dumb waiter. As I was building it I was having difficulty keeping it square, one corner was always out. After fully assembling it and Placing the waiter part in the lift it rubbed against the wall on one corner. I looked from the top and the 1 ½” by 1/8’ angle aluminum had a bow in it which was why it wouldn’t square up and the cause for it rubbing on the wall. I called the store and explained my situation to Herman and he told me I would have to wait until after the holiday for the owner to come in. I called after new years and got Herman again, I told him it would take some time for me to disassemble the unit but he talked with the owner and told me to bring it in. I live an hour away so I drove down walked in and told them who I was and they said they can’t help me. They didn’t even look at the warped angle aluminum. Chad Sitcler, the owner was sitting in his office and said it was my responsibility to make sure their product was within spec. I showed him how warped the piece was, well over ¼” in 7 ½ ‘. He said that was within industry standards. I asked why did you have me drive all the way here if you weren’t even going to look at it before you said we won’t do anything.
I looked up the standard and you are allowed .0125 warp per foot, that would be .09375 total. Mine was warped more than .250.
Make sure you inspect your product before you leave
