Not qualified:
First I called to ask about a dog. Then I packed my husband and three kids in the car and drove 45 min to meet her. Then we spent 20 min in the cage playing with her. Then we filled out the application. Never was I warned that not having a fenced in yard eliminated us from the possibility of most of their dogs. Because someone with a nasty chain link fence who just lets them out - or better - keeps them out there all alone is a better situation than our loving home. Then after 3 days they said that my $250,000 a year household with 2 professional engineers - one currently a stay at home mom in a suburb full of dogs and 3 active boys to keep her busy were not qualified to take a stray or a breed that runs. Because she might run. Any dog could run.
They devastated my family. Everyone there was so positive to our faces and as soon as we left they hide behind policies. I'm sure she's much better off in that cage with all of those other dogs barking and getting to go out once a day - if that. SHAME ON MACS

Don't take a pit bull there: they'll kill it for sure!:
MACS killed 4,564 animals in 2011. Bravo! That's the killing spirit! Keep up the good work! They have a handy-dandy incinerator outside the "shelter" as well. Sounds a bit like a nazi concentration camp, doesn't it!

Cruelty Takes Place Here!:
Please beware not to surrender an animal in this high-killl shelter. They do very little adoption and euthanize at a high rate. They are not forthright about policy: for example, they kill pitbulls as a rule without exception. Will not return applicant phone calls. Will not work with rescue groups. Rating is -1, but had to give it one star regretfully due to system default. Sadists!
