Yesterday in the mail we received a scratch off type of auto dealer ad with a Key attached. The ad was from Motors N More. We read the instructions which said "Scratch to WIN: upto 3 chances to win" it had 3 games and said in writing to find 3 matching dollar amounts in a line and you win that amount. Well hot diggity dog we had 3 $500's in a line!
When I showed up at the dealership to collect, with lots of other people who were also there to collect their 500.00, I was handed another card to scratch off for "A chance to win the Car or $25,000.00 in cash" I scratched that and did not win. Then they handed me $2.00. When I asked where my $500 was they told me that the barcode on my card had to match the barcode on their wall in order to really win the $500. Apparently the scam they had was to have EVERY ad they sent appeared to be a $500 winner (75,000 ads were mailed) because then everyone would think they won and come into the dealership and hopefully decide to buy a car.
It cost me more in gas to get there than 2 dollars. I am in no position to purchase a car. Had the scratch off not appeared to be a $500 dollar winner I would never have wasted my time, or theirs, to drive to the dealership. I also would have saved my gas money.
This was completely false advertising. The card did not clarify that you do NOT just "Scratch to WIN" therefore was simply a dishonest way to do business.
I say don't waste your time doing business with them... period. If they are willing to be so completely dishonest and waste peoples time and money for a silly ad then they apparently fit the old stereo type for a typical "Car Salesman" and will likely spout multiple lie's just to sell a car, and buyer you will never know if what they are getting is just a lemon. How do you trust someone who willingly tricks 74,999 people? Assuming that the 1 person who actually had the correct barcode - if such a ticket existed - would have won the 500 IF they claimed it - and how do we know they really even sent out that barcode on any ticket because not everyone bothers to even scratch off those tickets and they know that they can always just claim it was never "claimed".
