My friend is a first-time homebuyer, so we have been to some places looking for wooden floors. We were both impressed by the sincerity of the owners.
First they told us to take our time to look around and let him know if we needed anything. (Of course.) When we had questions about picking the floors for a house in Rancho Cucamonga, he spent a great amount of time "educating" us how to pick the material that fitted our need, including the weather and etc.... Really, it was like a long class of flooring for us, and the owner's English was not very good, but I guess it's worth it because my friend really likes what he got.

Of course, my friend was looking for something easy to clean and durable. Then based on the place he lives, the owner recommended a couple choices. Again, he also explained how to take care of wooden floor to make it last longer. Most importantly, based on the quotes, we feel the owner really put himself into our shoes, not just trying to sell us something fancy or expensive. I think that is crucial. I wouldn't want a modern house with most popular flooring but become out of date in 20 or 30 years. I don't want my friend's house to be criticized like those on "that 80's show".
