On March 15, 1781, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse so weakened British troops that they surrendered seven months later at Yorktown. This park was established in 1917 to memorialize that battle, one of the earliest events in the area's recorded history and a pivotal moment in the life of the colonies. There are more than 200 acres here, with wooded hiking trails.

Back during the Revolutionary War the battle for Guilford Courthouse was fought, with Major General Nathanael Greene and his men trying to defend the land against the British and German allies led by Lord Charles Cornwallis. Eventually Corwallis and his troops forced Greene to retreat, before Corwallis himself eventually surrendered to George Washington. Today, the grounds stand as a memorial...
