Description

Since its modest beginnings in Jamaica, Queens, in 1921, Nemo Tile has offered an unmatched breadth of product. Since its earliest years, Nemo Tile has been a fixture in Manhattan architecture and now throughout the world. From hotels, restaurants, and lobbies to company headquarters, entertainment complexes, and transportation hubs, Nemo Tile always meets the demand for beautiful, high-performance surface materials. Nemo Tile was founded by the Sedrish Family in 1921. For over three decades, they soley operated from a shop in Jamaica, Queens, where they serviced contractors and neighborhood homeowners with all their floor and wall tile needs. A walk through our Tile Vault at our Dunkirk Warehouse and you'll find a plethora of unique vintage 4x4 tiles that were quite on trend during this time. Jerry Karlin came on as Partner to Murray Sedrish in 1953 after a brief career in the liquor industry. A great businessman and a self-starter, Jerry saw growth potential in Nemo Tile. Under Jerry and Murrays leadership, the business expanded to Long Island, the Bronx and their flagship location in the historic Flatiron District in NYC.1953. Jerry was joined by his son, Bert Karlin, in 1974. Together the two helped pioneer the tile industry, going beyond the utilitarian 4x4 ceramic wall tile to large format porcelain, intricate mosaics and glass tiles. Their forward vision helped them land many timeless structures throughout Manhattan, including the Holland Tunnel, the MidTown Tunnel and countless hotels, arenas and residential buildings. In 2002, Matthew Karlin, son of Bert and Grandson of Jerry, kept the family tradition going when he decided to join Nemo Tile. Matthew saw his father and grandfather as a source of inspiration and a wealth of business insights that could not be learned in any classroom. For 12 years he worked under Bert's leadership while testing his own vision in areas such as launching Architecture and Desgin Sales, transforming the showroom and expanding the Nemo territory. While the company has grown significantly, now operating 5 showrooms (Long Island, Philadelphia, Queens and 2 Manhattan locations) their long-standing traditions remain the same. Each year, Matt and his leadership team travel to Italy, Spain, Brazil among other places, to find and procure the finest tile and stone available. Their unparalleled knowledge and experience in product selection is what sets them apart from the competition. When fantastic product is paired with superior service you have yourself a first class tile experience, which is what Nemo Tile strives to be
