dump:
As a relative novice to the aquarium hobby, I thought I would familiarize myself with local fish stores around the metroplex. What I saw at Neptune's has bothered me for days now. Enough to create a yahoo account to expressly warn other enthusiasts about this place. The conditions of the tanks was absolutely abhorrent. Several tanks were teeming with aiptasia. And by teeming, I mean the stuff was on the live rocks in the main tanks, and several smaller tasks actually had the nasty stuff growing on the glass. Dead fish lay in the tanks - and not recently dead. Im talking skeletal remains people. The appearance is that there is minimal (if any) maintenance provided to the tanks. I would never in a million years buy anything from this dump. If they dont even have the pride or care to clean up the storefront itself and are unashamed of the poor conditions of their livestock, they do not deserve my business - or yours. Even in this economy, the place should be shut down. It would be a gift to the animals and coral that have the misfortune of being relegated to spend the rest of their lives in such filth. So, to sum - please dont frequent this place. Please dont contribute to their disregard for these living and wonderful creatures. And read some other reviews- it is common to hear of being sold unheathly livestock. After seeing the conditions at Neptune's, I am confident that these accounts are true. True aquarists have a sense of respect for these creatures. Provide them the best water, the best lighting, the best diets for their species- we must do the best we can do to recreate the natural world. Otherwise it is a disservice to the wonders of nature and a sorry poor excuse to make money on the part of Neptune's Cove. Neptune's Cove, if you cant do any better than this, you should leave the fish in the reefs. I'll continue to purchase all my livestock, supplies, corals, and frags from the Dallas North Aquarium. Signed, A hugely disappointed aquarist PS - that's right I said it. Dump.
