Old State Capitol

Guests visiting the Old State Capitol can have a guided tour through this building where Abraham Lincoln once tried cases and later was laid for people to pay their respects. The building was also used for local events like dances and conventions. Today it has been preserved as a State historic site.

Two rare nineteenth-century portraits of Abraham Lincoln will be on display at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site, 5th and Adams, in Springfield, Illinois, following a reception on February 7, 2008, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The paintings are on loan from Morris Library at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, which is undergoing an extensive renovation.
