*** beware - scam dealer ***:
I recently found a used 2008 Mercedes SL550 on eBay. It was listed by Monroe Motorcars (aka Park Cities Autohaus) in Dallas. Their president, Will Monroe, stated via phone and e-mail that the car was in incredible shape and contained no evidence of being in an accident - "all panels measure within specs", "car is 100% factory and will be covered under factory Mercedes-Benz warranty", etc. However, after I purchased the car, I discovered that it had been seriously damaged in an undisclosed accident and only cosmetically restored. It will cost me well over $10,000 to repair the remaining damage, plus the substantial loss on the resale value of the vehicle. Once this was disclosed to Mr. Monroe, he stopped returning my phone calls and emails. Therefore I will be forced to pursue other legal options.

(Additional details follow)
Shortly after receiving the vehicle from Monroe Motorcars, I took it to our local Mercedes dealership to correct several minor issues which I believed would be covered under warranty. After almost two weeks in the shop, I was informed that the repairs were definitely not minor. Significant damage was discovered, as well as extensive body work and repainting to the car. Virtually none of the necessary repairs - estimated at $10,000 or more - would be covered under warranty, since they were the result of a major undisclosed accident to the vehicle before I acquired it.

The left-front, right-front and left-rear body panels, as well as the hood, have been removed, repaired and repainted. The driver-side door has been similarly reworked, but is still bowed out ... causing excessive wind noise and loose interior components. The front bumper was apparently removed for repairs, and the entire wiring harness for the right fog lamp is missing. The open hood light comes on intermittently, again probably due the accident. There is significant damage underneath the vehicle, including holes, cracks and dents in numerous components (including the radiator). Several components of the suspension are also bent and must be replaced, as well as the two right-side tires.

My local Mercedes dealer estimated that $10,000+ of repairs were previously made to the car prior to my purchasing it from Monroe Motorcars. And as mentioned above, there is another $10,000 or more in repairs still required. Unfortunately, the resale value of the car will be substantially less than it would have been if it had not been wrecked. This is completely inconsistent with Monroe Motor Car's online advertisement for this vehicle that indicated its condition as "incredible" and "well cared for". Amazingly the car has a clean Carfax and AutoCheck. But since this was previously a leased vehicle, it is not as uncommon as one might think.
