Go somewhere else if you want someone to show real concern:
I checked out Petinary last week because I wanted to bring my cat in for a check-up. While I felt that the hands-on care Dr. Kohn provided was very good, his attitude will prevent me from returning. The questions I asked seemed to make him defensive. When I asked him questions about the interventions he was suggesting for my cat, he seemed to think that I was questioning him and told me that he could give me a referral for someone else (which I took him up on).
He never mentioned any other things I could do to help my cat's liver health (something the blood work showed was an issue), and it was only when I asked him about diet that he told me to buy prescription cat food.
He did not express any concern for my anxiety regarding my cat's health. In fact, when I went in to pick up the medicine he prescribed, he did not even say hello to me even though I was the only person in the office nor did he (after I had to stop him on his way to the back to say hello) ask me how my cat was doing on the antibiotics he prescribed her. He gave me no indication of how to proceed after the course of antibiotics is finished.
Finally, I am a graduate student living on a very tight budget. When I called to make an appointment, the woman on the phone told me that I could set up a payment plan if it was over $100. The bill was $235, and when I asked to go on the aforementioned plan, Dr. Kohn refused, explaining (illogically) that because I was a first time customer, that he would like me to pay the whole amount.
On a good note, his assistant was kind, helpful, concerned, and knowledgeable. If he were to open his own clinic, I would go there in a heartbeat.
Bottom line: Really convenient location for folks in Willy Street area, but if you want to feel that someone is actually concerned about your animal, or sensitive to your feelings or confusion or anxiety regarding your pet's health, you might want to go somewhere else.
