For a "real touch of Italy", piezanos tout the "wonderful" Roman-style pies at this "authentic" pizzeria in the Village, where the "nice" staff "cuts the pizza with scissors"; hardly a trace of Zito's Bakery, the former tenant, remains in the small, "casual" dining room that opens onto an even smaller and "cuter" back patio.
Takes some cojones to open a new pizza joint in the Village, but easily justifies its address with serious pies. Uses the Roman approach, cooks in squares and sells by the pound. Artisanal results, employing super-fresh ingredients and a light dough that develops for four days. Sweet little shop with mismatched chairs, exposed brick, nice light. Adjacent yard Birreria Roma is reservation-only.
This Greenwich Village pizza spot is a tad confusing at first. Walk by and look in and you'll see what amounts to a pizza-by-the-slice joint. Which is fine, but enter and walk past the counter and you'll be rewarded with a nice sit-down…
