Poor oversight. Lack of accountability. Poor execution and quality.:
John Rodriguez was hired to complete an extensive remodel for our family in Lake Texoma. John was very eager and aggressive in having the project awarded to him, and with that eagerness I hired him with the belief he would follow through and do a sound job. He explained that if we put the entire remodel in his hands, it would run smoother. We bought into this theory, but he proved himself and us all wrong. The project started well, but as time elapsed, the project/budget/quality of work fell quickly. I'll explain thoroughly some of the troubling issues with John and his tendencies, while also trying to be understanding where he was unable to complete the project and why he has gone completely silent and disappeared. Below are the main problems we see with John and his "General Contracting".

Problems:
1) John did not always pay his subcontractors. His subcontractors have then reached out to us for payments we had already made to John. This happened on two occasions and we are now settling with these subcontractors. In speaking with these workers, we realized John had almost a negative relationship with them. He apparently does this regularly. We have this in writing in case of denial and will be following up for settlement.
#2) John is unable to keep track of details and payments. One example is after a $20,000 cash payment. A week later he asked for another payment and I had to remind him we had JUST written him a $20K check. After this things got weird, we never were able to receive legitimate invoices and never reconciled $7K of vague costs. (Email history saved for proof)
#3) General oversight was obscenely lackadaisical. Every step of the project, it was our family catching mistakes, corner cutting, etc. Even to this day, we have moving hardwood floors. It was a full-time job for myself and my father to oversee John's own crew and to follow-up with John on his project he so dearly bidded for.
#4) Projects. Take. Forever. John and his crews were simply not capable of completing a job within a reasonable time frame. For example, to level a bathroom floor took over one month. That is no exaggerations, and John can attest, we had far too many frozen periods during this project. John took advantage of the fact that our family had a second residence and put other projects in front of ours even after he started ours first.
#5)

To be fair, I'll mention the positives of John during this too-long project that is still not completed.
1) He is not a General Contractor, he is a roofer. John's roofing crew did a fantastic job.
2) John was generally a polite guy - until he ran away from this project and disappeared.

Summary: if you're going to hire John for anything, hire him to do your roof. But do not hire him to do any plumbing work, wood flooring, or bathroom work. We've been nothing but professional and polite with John, poured money into him and his crews, and received a mediocre product in return. We missed family vacations due to the continuous delays and worst of all, after already spending a fortune, we are now spending more money fixing areas that John's crew did a poor job. I take partial blame for not pulling the job after John forgot about the $20K payment, but be careful, he is also a smooth talker. I am giving John one star for doing his job on the granite and roof. I believe John took the job with good intention, but quickly realized the extensive remodel and quality control was over his heads. We gave John ample time respond, remediate, finish the job, etc etc. Nothing....

Hopefully John will do what is right and remediate these issues through reimbursement. He knows our phone number and email and has been told to contact us before arriving at our residence(s).

As a CPA, Yelp! Council member, and church goer, I understand the importance of accountability, accurate reviews, and honesty. Please strongly consider this review before hiring John and "Planet Energy Solution & Construction".
