Great quilt, TERRIBLE business practices!!:

In January of 2021 I commissioned a quilt as a high school graduation gift for my son. After the scope of the project was discussed and a desired completion date established, the owner Stephanie McCall completed a commission worksheet that specified the pertinent details. The price quoted was $750- $800.
As often occurs with creative projects, things evolved and changed along the way. Several new ideas were batted back and forth and Stephanie was very accommodating and eager to please through the process. In order to implement some of the new ideas, I provided additional materials to be incorporated into the quilt on one or two occasions. Once or twice via text, email and/or Face Book messenger, she mentioned off hand that, "Oh, that may cost a little bit more" (or something similarly phrased) and then moved right along in the conversation. AT NO POINT WAS AN UPDATED OR REVISED commission worksheet or price quote provided.
A few days ago, I received an invoice that showed a balance due of $803.54 for a grand total of $1,503,54. (including the 3 previous deposits of $200, $300, $200). I decided that a face-to-face conversation on June 18th 2021 regarding the 100% increase in cost would be the best course of action. Today I picked up the quilt and it looked fabulous! The quality is outstanding. There is no question that she does fine work. But, as a small business owner, one must, be transparent, honest, fair and trustworthy. when I asked her how the price quote could more than double from the start of the project to-the-day I picked it up, Stephanie had almost nothing to say. She mustered a weak, apology for the HUGE price increase but couldn't provide any documentation showing that I was told about the price increase and that I understood it by signing or initialing the form. It seemed that she expected me to be so impressed by the quilt that I would pay the remaining balance (which was even more than the initial quote) and walk out happy. It is as if she thinks she has carte blanche to charge as much as she wishes and ambush the customer at pick up time. Essentially, she holds your treasured keeps sakes, mementos and personal memories hostage until she gets her money. Her attitude was/ is, OH, BY THE WAY, THE ORIGINAL $700- $800 QUOTE BALOONED TO $1500, PAY THE BALANCE OR YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR QUILT. WHAT A TERRIBLE THING TO DO TO A CLIENT/ CUSTOMER!
Ms. McCall's QBC (Quilts by Commission) business practices are dishonest, disingenuous, rude, inconsiderate and immoral.
