Lawyer paid by state of California and not helpful:
I am a single father that is bitterly unhappy with my experience with David Rickett of the Reape-Rickett Law Firm, his staff and their legal services after he was assigned to minor’s counsel for my child due to a bitter custody battle. In my opinion, his business model seems focused on billable hours and how long he can prolong his future income not what’s in the best interest of the child. It clearly appears minor counsel Rickett will spare no effort to ruin my normal relationship with my daughter and any meaningful relationship with her grandmother as well as other extended family.
He also lectured me after I got upset of the ineffectiveness of his staff and the manner they would talk down to me as if my concerns were not valid even though the baby’s mom’s attorney would not even respond to them. After my frustration level reached panic, David Rickett sent me an email saying not to call his staff and he would no longer be able to help me since his staff is who he relies on for answers.
It should not matter if Rickett likes me as a person or not he should do what’s in the best interest of the child as the Great State of California is paying him for. This is the worst example a child’s life and potential being ruined as well as hindered by cronyism, bias and bad legal work.
Even before it appeared David Rickett aligned himself with the child’s mom, David Rickett frequently made and makes factual errors on drafts of Findings and Orders after Hearing that he was assigned to do by the Judge. Every time he drafted them his office would leave out rights I was entitled to as well as having errors from what was stated in open court. I took notes and went back and got the transcripts and saved myself losing out of some of my parental rights.
Then I checked the court file and saw the bill he turned into the state for $6,000 for only 4 months of work as he spent the entire time aligned with the child’s Mom trying to set road block after road block to my equal visitation of the child. David Rickett would not interview witnesses or even check out my concerns with the daycare and my biggest complaint my child had not been to the dentist ever.
And now David Rickett is not bashful about hiding his new partnership with the child’s mom as he sits in the hallway with her and her attorney being buddy buddy or the same thing in the court gallery as we wait for our hearing to be called.
To reiterate, ever since David Rickett has become the minor’s counsel in this case the contact between the father and daughter has been reduced to the point of insignificance, with contact to extended family dropped to zero and all attempts to improve the situation have been stifled by Rickett.
I am very unhappy with David Rickett and his staff. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy and if they are assigned minor’s counsel in your case, object right away and ask for any other option. These are only my personal opinions after my direct experience working with David Rickett. I hope this helps you and your child have a happy future.
