Use of PAs for 1st visits:
Two of my Sons were seen by PAs on their 1st visit following an injury. Latest told us no growth plates in thumb, which a Radiologist in ER had told us was broken. PA said no growth plates in thumb, not true. Friend is a Doc at Mayo who said their are growth plates in thumb joint with an 18 yr old male. Now will be charged for seeing a surgeon which we did NOT. a Nurse Practitioner has more education than a PA. This practice is absurd. If you can find an Ortho at somewhere else, go there.

If you can, go somewhere else:
4 weeks ago I broke my arm. Urgency sent me to Rebound for casting and follow up.
I've been there twice and both times my experience was awful. My first appointment was scheduled to be in Fisher's Landing, only they changed it to the PeaceHealth location at 6:30 pm the night before. I did not get the message and thus went to Fisher's Landing. I was there 30 minutes early, as was requested during the original scheduling. They promptly told me that my appointment location had been changed the prior evening and told me I might have to reschedule unless I could get back across town in order to be on time at the other location. I arrived on time.
The woman who took my insurance information and other details was terribly unprofessional. She giggled, laughed and tittered during the entire intake process, for no apparent reason at all. It made me feel incredibly uncomfortable.
They were able to "fit me in" at my scheduled appointment time, looked at the xrays sent over by Urgency, slapped a cast on me and sent me home with a follow up appointment.
That appointment was today. I arrived early and was sure to confirm the location and time of my appointment beforehand. I waited in line for a full 20 minutes and was lucky enough to have the weirdly giggling girl check me in. I then waited in the lobby for 45 minutes.
It was lunchtime by the time I was called in and the rude moods of nearly every person in the place made it clear my delaying their lunch was not appreciated.
The Xray technition jerked my arm around to get it in place with no regard for my pain. My doctor told me there was still a risk that a tendon in my arm could rupture, but reassured me that I didn't need that tendon anyway. She told me to take less ibuprophen, and treated me like I was some crackhead when I asked her to refill a prescription for Vicodin. She told me she would write me a small prescription and told me to come back in 2 weeks to get the cast off.
At the appointment counter, I relayed the request for an appointment for 2 weeks out, since the doctor had left immediately after seeing me for lunch and had not passed that information along. The appointment counter offered me an appointment 3 weeks out, since the doctor who saw me was on vacation in 2 weeks. I told them I would be happy to see someone else. The appointment woman made a snarky comment about how it would have been better for me to just have the cast on for an extra week, but scheduled me 2 weeks out.
Despite saying she would, the doctor did not write me a prescription and the appointment woman said she'd confirm whether the doctor would or not and call it to the pharmacy. I'll call the pharmacy tommorrow and see but it is apparent that Rebound cares more about their lunch than they do their patients so I'm not going to hold my breath.
The one positive about Rebound are the people applying and removing casts. Both times they were professional, efficient and friendly.
