In the world of Guitar Center, band instruments sold at Wal-Mart, and countless internet options you would think this business would capitalize on it's strengths - one of them being face-to-face old-fashioned service. Here is where they miss the boat...Except for a couple of rare employees that have much more integrity than the business they work for (Nate Carlson in the pro-shop has created many loyal customers because he understands the importance of customer relationships and is a fantastic guitar tech. Mark Ohlson, the drum pro, is someone who gets it - more than the owner Paul Rieman certainly does. When a customer is standing at the register with merchandise, ready to PAY, it doesn't reflect well on business to treat them like a pain in the a@s. The customer also doesn't want to know about all the "procedures" the cashier must follow to make the sale. Honestly, the bigger stores are friendlier and more efficient when it comes to this aspect of the sale. The "sad saps" at the counter are bad for business and can't seem to take a breath without having to "get a manager". This tells me that the owner doesn't empower his staff. They're regarded as "bean counters" who shouldn't be trusted to be a part of running the business. This is a bad strategy and creates high employee turnover and disgruntled customers which Rieman Music has aplenty. If you don't appreciate your assets they will disappear. Get a clue, Paul! If you're going to compete with the big dogs you're going to have to give your customers a reason to choose your business.
